A Stitch In Time

If over the past 100 years doctors were paid to keep their clients well, I wonder what effect that might have had on our health system and our level of health and wellbeing right now? With all respect and gratitude for the advances that have been made in microbiology and understanding the disease process, it may be time to consider a model that places wellness at centre stage.
In Vedic times an Ayurvedic physician was paid to keep their patients well and if a patient got sick, the doctor paid for their treatment! This worked because health care primarily focused on what one needed to do to stay well. As the saying goes “a stitch in time saves nine”.
The Vedic physician always recommended a seasonal cleanse in order to maintain wellbeing. Why is this?
At the end of spring and the beginning of summer the body naturally likes to cleanse or detox any impurities (ama) that may have arisen in the previous season. We like to think of the seasonal cleanses as being like a health insurance, because they are designed to flush out the seasonal build-up from spring/winter so that your system is in tip-top shape for enjoying summer.
Look at the three descriptions below and select the dosha cleanse that is best for you
- If you tend towards loose or soft bowel, or have elimination more than twice a day, with a tendency for anger, then the Pitta Cleanse is recommended for you.
- If you tend towards weight gain, sinus or mucous congestion, fluid retention and your bowel elimination is normal and easy then the Kapha Cleanse is recommended for you.
- If you tend to experience constipation or bowel elimination less than daily then the Vata Cleanse is recommended for you.
Wishing you the bliss of balance.
