Autoimmune Issues

Treating the root cause
If you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, thyroiditis, multiple sclerosis or ulcerative colitis then you are likely to have heard the term autoimmune disorder.
Autoimmune conditions occur when the immune system fails to recognise self-antigens and mounts a misguided attack upon them. The common dysfunction is that the body starts to attack itself and general symptoms include exhaustion, muscle aches and low temperature.
Maharishi Ayurveda identifies the lack of awareness of the Self as the root cause of all disease. Pragyaparadha is the Ayurvedic term to describe this mistake of the intellect.
This condition is evident in autoimmune diseases as the body fails to recognise part of itself and treats it like an invader. Establishing awareness in the physiology and re-enlivening the connection of all the parts of the physiology to the whole is key to helping the body restore balance at the source of the problem. Transcendental Meditation
yoga asana postures such as sun salutation, herbals with a rasayana effect and even a daily oil massage all help to re-awaken this connection.
Tips to re-enliven intelligence
Transcendental Meditation is of benefit to sufferers of autoimmune diseases as it releases the deep-rooted stress stored in our physiology, while re-enlivening the body’s own healing intelligence. It also enhances the connection between mind and body.
Gentle yoga postures called asanas balance and enliven the physiology. These postures extend muscles that are often rarely used, promoting flexibility in the whole body. Regular practice of yoga asanas including sun salutation, increase mind-body coordination and are useful in treating autoimmune conditions.
A daily oil massage called Abhyanga helps lubricate muscles, tissues and joints. It helps to settle vata dosha which governs changeability in the physiology and is therefore helpful in preventing flare-ups in existing autoimmune disorders. Abhyanga is done by massaging warm Vata, Pitta or Kapha oil all over the body for about 20 minutes before a shower. See how
Rasayana Herbals
Rasayana herbals are potent blends of fruits and herbs that are traditionally said to help negate old age and disease. Rasayana is also described as that which enters the essence. When restoring balance with autoimmune conditions, treatment at the level of the essence helps strengthen the whole body to support the body’s healing response.
Amrit Kalash is a rasayana that supports bala, or the vital strength that helps the physiology maintain health. Amrit has been called the Nectar of Immortality, as it feeds the body's seven tissues: nutritional fluid, blood, muscle, fat, bone, bone marrow and reproductive fluid. It is tri-doshic, which means it balances the three ayurvedic mind-body types: Vata, Pitta and Kapha.
Amrit Kalash includes two formulas for complete support and balance. The Nectar and Ambrosia herbal tablets work synergistically together to support overall health. As each contains different herbs it’s best to use both formulas.
Build-up of impurities
Autoimmune diseases can also be understood in terms of a build up of toxins and impurities called ama. Ama refers to anything that has not been properly digested in the physiology and is caused by poor diet, weak digestion, consumption of alcohol, nicotine and drugs, or environmental toxins. The first stage of ama development is usually due to eating unsuitable foods or eating at inappropriate times such as before bed or when the previous meal has not been digested. If ama continues to be produced over a long period of time it can create blockages and settle in the weak areas in the body. Ama can block the tiny channels that carry nutrients and waste around the body. Purification involving herbs and dietary and lifestyle recommendations can assist with getting rid of ama. In chronic situations a deeper level of cleansing called panchakarma is recommended.
Digest Tone is an excellent formula for gently helping to cleanse impurities over time. Along with Elim Tox or Elim Tox O this combination provides a gentle and effective cleansing of ama from the tissues.
If you are suffering from an autoimmune disease it is best to have a consultation with a Maharishi Ayurveda Practitioner to support a more tailored and targeted approach.
Wishing you the bliss of balance.
