How to Reignite Yourself

Now that Autumn is behind, and Winter is upon us have your noticed your energy is less than usual or that your energy has been fluctuating? If so, be reassured, this is due to the changes that come with this time of the year. At this juncture, nature supports our long term health by releasing into our blood and lymph the impurities that accumulated over Autumn. This process is part of our amazingly intelligent self-cleaning system that works quietly often unseen, to keep us healthy and well.

Within the last week, a client commented to me that his digestion was flat and energy was down. He was spot on with his self-awareness. During this seasonal change as Vata becomes more active, our digestive fires can become taxed with self-cleansing, often resulting in less energy being available to us

Ayurveda understands this mechanism and suggests that we take some simple actions to support this seasonal self-cleansing that happens within us. So here are some simple choices you can make to help your body and mind, right now when it needs it the most. Attending to your body’s needs at this juncture can help you enjoy a healthy winter and ease the seasonal change that takes place at the end of Winter as we move into Spring.

Taking some targeted herbals at this time is most helpful and makes the cleansing programme easy to do.

First thing in the morning

First thing in the morning after cleaning teeth and tongue and at least 15-30 minutes before eating breakfast take 1-2 tablets of Congest Assist with a glass of warm water. Eat a warm and light breakfast. Avoid eggs, meat, cheese or fried foods for breakfast at this time. Then take two tablets of Bio immune 30 minutes after breakfast. Bio immune provides a gentle cleanse while also supporting your immune strength.

Be well hydrated

Drink sips of Vata Tea, Be Trim Tea or Tranquilitea every 15-30 minutes through the day. These teas help to gently release waste while settling Vata that also dominates at this time of the year.

Lunch

To support your liver which is the main detoxification organ of the body, take two tablets of Liver Care prior lunch. Pitta dosha, which governs digestion and liver is most active between 10 am to 2 pm. After lunch, take Digest Plus 1-2 tablets (Vata or Kapha dominant) and Digest Medium (Pitta dominant).

Evening Meal

Vata dosha governs the organs of elimination and is active between 2 pm and 6 pm, so early evening is the best time of the day to support cleansing of the organs of elimination. Take two tablets of Rejuvenation for Ladies , or two tablets of Rejuvenation for Men 15 - 30 minutes before the evening meal. As the evening is when your digestive fires are lowest, it is best to take Digest Plus 1-2 tablets or Digest Medium after the evening meal.

Bedtime

To support the release of impurities from the gastrointestinal tract to the organs of elimination, take two tablets of Digest Tone at bedtime along with two tablets of Bio immune.

Food Choices

Favour warm food and drinks and avoid raw and cold food and beverages. The evening meal is the time to eat warm and tasty options when hungry, and with full attention. Choose seasonal fruits and vegetables and aim to make your lunch meal the more substantial meal of the day and your evening meal lighter and by 6 pm.

Exercise

Being physically active for 30 minutes or more daily is helpful at this time. It is both warming and also aids in detoxification. Walking at a comfortable pace, while swinging your arms and breathing through your nose is recommended. Take the time to notice your environment with appreciation and be aware of your body’s needs.

Sleep

When the body is active cleansing and repairing itself, you may find you do best with a bedtime that is a little earlier than usual. This additional rest allows the body to repair most effectively and helps to recharge energy too.

Tip: Take the recommended herbals for 2-4 weeks.

Wishing you the bliss of balance, today and always.
